Album Review: Tegan and Sara

Album: Heartthrob

4/5 Stars

This indie duo’s seventh studio album, Heartthrob, takes twin sisters Tegan and Sara in a slightly new direction. The first single from the album, Closer, is very similar to synthpop (comparable to Purity Ring) and is a departure from the style of their older albums and singles (Walking With a Ghost is a notable example). The other tracks on the album are not so heavily electro-infused but there is definitely influence from other synthpop acts present on the album. All in all, the new direction does not take away from the duo’s musical talents, but I was personally more partial to their older music, which seemed to be a more natural fit for them.
