Swim Team Nears Finish

The Hampden-Sydney Swim team’s second season has seen its fair share of victories
to start the year, with wins over Gallaudet, Davis & Elkins, and Greensboro (twice) during the fall semester as well as a 5th place finish at the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jacket Invitational.

The Tigers, however, have yet to swim a single meet in 2013.  Their first scheduled race was a third match-up with Greensboro College on the road on January 18.  Unfortunately, due to a snowstorm the day before, which dumped about 6 inches of snow on H-SC, the College’s aquatic speedsters could not make the trip and the meet was postponed.  According to hscathletics.com, the meet has been rescheduled for February 8th.
Also, due to renovations of the Leggett Pool in Kirby Fieldhouse, the members of the swim team have had to practice off-campus at Longwood University in recent weeks.  The renovation, originally expected to be ready in time for the start of the spring semester, has gone on longer than expected.  Signs posted throughout the TigerRec Fitness Center announce a new estimated completion date of January 29th, with the pool scheduled for re-opening the following day.

In the meantime, the Swim Team remains hard at work, looking to close out their season the way they started it: victorious.  In addition to the rescheduled meet with Greensboro, the Tigers will travel to Frostsburg State for a meet today at 4pm.  Also, the Tigers will take part in an unofficial ODAC championship swim meet from Feburary 8-10.  This meet is “unofficial” because the ODAC does not have enough teams to hold an official championship in men’s swimming like they currently do with women’s swimming.
